Tudor Launches New Northflag With GMT Function

Tudor just brought back a watch from the past, and one that many fans have been asking for since its discontinuation: Say hello to the all-new Tudor Northflag. What made the original such a major part of the modern Tudor story was the fact that, upon its release in 2015, it boasted the brand’s first use of an in-house movement.

The new Northflag (yes, it’s all one word), takes the iconography of the original and has some fun with it, making the watch even more adventurous than it was previously. If you were a fan of the model, then you will certainly notice that the power-reserve indicator is no longer present at 9 o’clock. This was always contentious, but it was a good way of showing off the movement’s bona fides at the time.

The dial has been further accentuated with a 24-hour rehaut, which gives the watch a much more purpose-built look and feel. The large Arabic numerals are made from monobloc luminous ceramic, something we have seen used in the past on another Tudor watch,the Black Bay Pro.

In terms of construction, the watch is cased in a stainless steel case with an integrated bracelet, a design very much in tune with the first Northflag and very much inspired by the Tudor Ranger II. The clasp on the new Northflag is also equipped with the brand's proprietary T-Fit adjustment system.

Turning the watch around reveals an exhibition caseback showcasing the  MT5652-U caliber with GMT function. Yes, you read that right, and if you look on the dial you will see another yellow hand (in addition to the “Northflag hands”) that points to a second time zone as indicated on the 24-hour rehaut. The watch is METAS-certified and has a power reserve of 65 hours.

The specs are as follows: 40mm case diameter, a 12.7mm case height, and 48.8mm lug-to-lug. This makes for a tremendously wearable package, especially when you consider how much is packed under the hood. It is very cool to see this design return — and to have a year where we see three Tudor model range releases not named Black Bay (Royal, Monarch, and now Northflag). We are hoping to go hands-on with this watch soon and will report back our thoughts then.
