G-Shock's New Metallic Series Takes Aim at Fashion Lovers On A Budget

The brand’s latest launch combines classic G-SHOCK style with new metallic silicone straps, offering trendy monochrome style at a price that won’t break the bank.

G-Shock is an undisputable champion of street style in the world of watches, and its latest Metallic Series solidifies its title. While the Japanese, Casio-owned brand has previously released full-metal makes of its most iconic designs, those models typically run on the higher end of the brand’s pricing, in the $500-$700 ballpark, with more premium models retailing at even steeper price points. With the four models released today, G-Shock combines stainless-steel bezel construction with new tough silicone straps that mimic the shine of precious metals, without the steep price tag.

In terms of design and capabilities, all four of the newly released models will feel familiar to G-Shock lovers. There are two models each of the brand’s popular 5600 Series and GM2100 styles in silver or gold tones.

The silver 5600 model and the gold-tone GM2100 feel a touch more edgy than the other two with their black dial face, and the former features a negative digital display that makes it feel more cohesive. The timekeeping features and water and shock-resistant properties that we know and love from G-Shock are a given here. Again, the real novelty of this release is pairing the steel watch-face elements with the newly redesigned straps.

The brand states that the new, tough silicone straps are not only designed for style but also to feel flexible and comfortable on the wrist. This is achieved through a mix of techniques, including coating the band’s surface in a urethane sheet, which undergoes a vapor deposition process to create that precious metal-like metallic gleam.

From a top wrist view, these straps also mimic the style of a bracelet, featuring three link-like shapes with screw impressions that one would find on other pieces within the G-Shock catalog. Past the links, the silicone band is smooth, creating an interesting contrast between the two elements. G-Shock is also quite explicitly pushing the fashion-forward intention behind this new mini collection, referring to them as “fashion items” across its own landing pages.

Though all four models aren’t yet available for purchase on the G-Shock website, other sources price the new Fine Metallic Series at $240 to $280. For more information, visit the G-Shock website here.
